The fundamental objective of the association is to maintain and develop solidarity and brotherhood bonds between all graduates of the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the Solvay Business School and Economische Wetenschappen at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and to contribute to the prosperity of these schools, as well as the development and propagation of their education, respectful of the philosophical principles of the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Our by-laws are available in a PDF version in French and in Dutch, as well as our Governance Charter.

The purpose of the association is :

  1. To hoist our school amongst the top European Business Schools while fully using everyone's specificity and complementarity (students, teachers, graduates).
  2. To serve the school's graduates on the long term, thus contributing to the permanent accreditation by EQUIS.
  3. Reinforce the network by :
    • Organizing it better each year; by its diversity and its internationalization.
    • Creating a variety of events, sharing information, experience and organizing various activities.
    • Coaching and helping members who request our support.
  4. Make the graduates sensitive to the school's financial situation.
  5. To improve and convince, when necessary, of the association's utility.
  6. Maintain the quality of the diplomas and certifications delivered by the Solvay Schools.

All activities are now structured around five activity areas which have been identified during the strategic work carried out in the early part of 2011:

Effective networking
Develop a unique, effective and diversified networking place where all community members feel at home developing their professional contacts and businesses.

Career services
Offer an integrated set of coaching and mentorship activities, as well as internships and job offers, to help students and alumni define, reposition and boost their careers.

Continuous education
Help both alumni and the schools to remain up to date in university study areas and in the topics alumni need to meet their professional challenges.

Schools support
Support SBS-EM and SBS-ES through defining and delivering relevant education to students and alumni, and supporting the schools' important financial needs.

Impact on business and society
Contribute to the "Voice of Solvay" in Belgium and abroad by promoting alumni participation in private, public and non-governmental organizations, and by helping the community to be heard on important society-related issues.

4 Integrative Functions

These 5 pilars support our 4 integrative functions:

Geographical integration, with our alumni who are present in more than 65 countries around the globe;

Generational integration, with the hardly 600 new graduates who join every year the ranks of the Solvay Schools alumni;

Linguistic integration, with a population that is trilingual (French, Dutch and English speaking), and where everyone should feel at home;

New Schools' products, to gather in our association alumni who followed different programs of the Solvay Schools.

Membership is open to all SBS-EM and SBS graduates, membership as supporting member can also be given to anyone who has followed a "non-degree" cursus in our school. Membership of Honour may be attributed to any deserving Belgian or foreign personality judged worthy of such a distinction due to his/her world-wide situation, or for lent services to the association or to the university.

The general assembly is the main body of the association and groups the active members. It appoints the members of the board of directors and insures a minimum of representatives of the school's graduates. It also appoints an executive committee composed of a president, a vice-president, a secretary, a treasurer, a managing director, a person in charge of fund raising, another person in charge of co-ordinating the activities, and a person in charge of the database.

The income of the association comes from its membership fees, gifts, legacies or subsidies and from the result of its activities.
